Images & Words : Hidden Treasure

A box without hinges, key, or lid, yet golden treasure inside is hid.
J. R. R. Tolkien

In the history  , in some civilizations like Greek , Roman Lykian important peoplelike kings and princes were burried in big block tombs with the precous things they have used when they were alive. They were destroyed by the treasure hunters.
Here are two pictures to show how big the tomb is and how it was destroyed which are in Olympos in Antalya .

  7. Sad when you know the history but at least as your photos show there is still some left behind for posterity.

  8. Interesing post. Perhaps if it wasn't for such hidden treasures, our knowledge of the history of our civilisation would not be so much.

  9. I love the photos we can take of what's left of the past.... they had amazing detail and craftsmanship to the work, and the treasures were personal and valuable ~ even though none are left. I never got to Olympos, but saw much in the western region of Turkey.
